Pench National Park is named after the Pench River, which
flows through its verdant landscapes, the park covers an area of approximately 293 square miles and
serves as a sanctuary for a wide array of flora and fauna. It boasts a unique blend of topography,
characterized by undulating hills, sprawling teak forests, and expansive grasslands. This varied
landscape supports a diverse ecosystem, making the park an ideal habitat for both prey and predators.
The park is obviously known for its population of Bengal tigers, and is also one of India’s best
parks for sightings of the elusive leopard.
It is also home to a plethora of other wildlife species. The river also
supports a variety of aquatic life, including fish and turtles, and attracts a multitude of bird
species, making Pench a paradise for birdwatchers. The avian diversity of Pench National Park is
impressive, with over 285 species recorded within its confines. From the vibrant Indian roller to the
majestic crested serpent eagle, the park offers a visual feast for ornithologists and nature enthusiasts
alike. The dense foliage and the serene water bodies create perfect nesting grounds, fostering a
thriving bird population.

Day 9 & 10: Pench. (B.L.D)
Enjoy morning and afternoon jeep safaris into the sanctuary on each day. The
morning jeep safari in Pench National Park begins with the break of dawn, a time when the forest awakens
from its slumber. The crisp morning air is filled with the chirping of birds, and the golden rays of the
sun cast a mystical glow over the landscape. The early hours are particularly good for bird watching, as
numerous bird species emerge to bask in the warmth of the morning sun. It is during this time that
animals are most active, searching for food and water. In contrast, during the afternoon safari the sun
is high in the sky, casting a different light over the forest. The chances of sighting tigers are
particularly high during these hours, as they often come out to drink at waterholes. The experience is
enhanced by the softer light of the setting sun, which paints the forest in rich, warm tones.
