Lodi Gardens Description:
Spreading over 90 acres in the heart of Delhi, Lodi Gardens is a horticultural and architectural tribute to the various rulers that controlled much of Northern India during the 16th century. Lush lawns and hordes of flowers surround the numerous tombs and monuments found in the gardens.
The tomb of Mohammed Shah, the last of the Sayyid dynasty’s rulers, is the earliest tomb in the garden. It was built in 1444 by Ala-ud-din Alam Shah as a tribute to Mohammed Shah.
In the middle of the gardens is the Bara Gumbad (Big Dome), which is a gateway to a three-domed mosque built in 1494 under the rule of Sikander Lodi, who the park is named for. Across from the Bara Gumbad rests the Sheesh Gumbad (glass dome). The structure takes its name from the glazed tiles used in its construction.
Best Time to Visit Lodi Gardens:
The best weather to visit Delhi’s Lodi Gardens is between October and March. High temperatures between April and June recede after cooling rains in July and September, which make the garden’s plants particularly beautiful.
The garden is a popular space for Delhi’s citizens’ morning walks, and the early day is a great time to people watch here.
